Dalit Rights activist Rakshya Ram Chamar is to be honoured with the ‘Subash Darnal Award’ this year. The award set up in the name of the late social campaigner Subash Darnal carries a purse of Rs 500,000. Darnal also served as founding chairman of the Jagaran Media Centre, an organisation established by Dalit journalists to raise voices against caste-based discrimination. The award will be handed out amid a programme to be organised on July 16 to mark Darnal’s death anniversary, said Darnal’s wife Sarita Pariyar, also chairperson of the Sarita Pariyar Trust based in New York, USA through which the award is provided. Chamar works as human rights officer for the Tarai Human Rights Defenders Alliance (THRD Alliance). VIDEO HERE
