A seeming epidemic of an unidentified disease in Hardeni VDC, located at the western hilly region of the Udayapur district, has claimed at least three lives in 10 days.The deceased have been identified as Sabina Nepali, 30, of Hardeni – 2, Bhim Kumar Nepali, 18, and Ganga Bahadur Pariyar, 55.The unheard of disease started spreading from May 23, and in 10 days three persons have died, a local teacher, Nabin Karki said.The symptoms of the mysterious illness starts from swelling in the throat creating difficulties in respiration followed with swelling of the entire body after which the patients die within three to five days, said Krishna Prasad Khatri, a local of the area.District Health Office Udayapur Information Official, Duniyala Yadav, confirmed the death of three persons due to the unidentified illness.Two of them had died in course of treatment at the BP Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan while one died at Katari Hospital, Yadav said.A team of two doctors and five health workers were sent to Hardeni area from District Hospital Udayapur for studying the mysterious and deadly disease which has gripped the entire village in fear.Nirmala Rai of Hardeni – 2 was sent to Kathmandu after falling ill from the same disease. With more villagers getting infected, the disease is sending serious alarm bells.
